Mark Provost, Founder of Saltbush & Clay. Pioneer in ethical luxury, manager of Australia's first Aboriginal resort, and creator of the Bio-Engineered Heritage skincare line.

Mark Provost is the Founder and Managing Director of Saltbush and Clay Pty Ltd, an Australian high-performance skincare company. Driven by the philosophy of the “Science for Survival,” Mark led the brand’s flagship Native Cell Serum, which utlises Advanced Cellular Extraction to harness the resilient properties of Australian halophytes like the Kakadu Plum. Under his leadership, Saltbush and Clay Pty Ltd has pioneered micro-batch botanical science, creating targeted solutions for skin resilience against environmental stressors.

The Vision: A Future Forged in Red Dust

In 2004, amidst the sun-bleached expanse of the Australian interior, Mark Provost saw a future that didn’t yet exist.

Long before "glamping" entered the global lexicon, Mark was negotiating landmark joint ventures with Traditional Owners to mount African army tents with an ensuite upon the red earth. The result was Australia’s first exclusive Aboriginal Resort—a transformative model of tourism heralded by The New York Times, TIME, and the United Nations.

It was here, through a profound friendship with a regional traditional medicine man, that the seeds for Saltbush & Clay were sown. Years before the world recognised the Kakadu Plum’s clinical potency, Mark was trekking through the scrub of the Kimberley and Arnhem Land, documenting the "survival intelligence" of botanicals that thrive where nothing else can.

The Return: Purpose Over Profit

Life, much like the desert, is governed by seasons beyond our control. After years of navigating corporate landscapes that valued balance sheets over the spirit of the land—and seeing his luxury sustainable resorts in the South Pacific weathered by destructive cyclones—the desert called Mark back.

They say the red dust only summons you when you have unfinished business.

Returning to the untamed Northern Territory, Mark founded Saltbush & Clay. It is the culmination of two decades spent pioneering a model where true value is measured by integrity, not volume.

The Mission: Bio-Engineered Heritage

Today, through active projects within Aboriginal Communities in the Tanami Desert, Mark’s mission has evolved into what he calls Bio-Engineered Heritage. Saltbush & Clay serves a dual purpose:

  • Potency: Bridging the gap between raw, wild-harvested botanicals and the precision of cellular science.

  • Legacy: Acting as a catalyst for sustainable remote industry, establishing a transparent market for rare, wild-grown ingredients sourced directly from Aboriginal land.

"We aren't just harvesting plants; we are bottling the resilience of a landscape that has endured for millennia." — Mark Provost
